National Guardsmen In Army Exercise Some 135 Tarheel National Guardsmen of the 30th (Old Hick ory) Infantry Division will be among more than 5,000 military personnel participating in a mam moth U. S. Army exercise to be held at Fort Gordon, Ga., April 15 and 16. Two two-day command post ex ercise — dubbed LUGKY FOX TROT—will be directed by Lt. Gen. Paul D. Adams, commander of the Third U. S. Army. LUCKY FOXTROT is the fifth in a series of exercises conducted by Third Army for training head quarters and staff units, ranging in size from a field army down to combat and support units. The 30th Infantry Division con tingent, led by Maj. Gen. Edward F. Griffin of Louisburg, will be among Army personnel from sev j en southeastern states taking part l in the exercise. ' Also participating will be U. S. Air Force units which will be used to add maximum realism to the staff play. Third Army officials have stress ed that the exercise is not based on any existing war plans. It is a map problem dealing with atomic, missile, electronic, and gas war fare principles, and based on simulated enemy activities. In formation for the map problem will come from controllers, um pires playing the parts of higher and lower headquarters. Also taking part in the exercise will be the 252nd Air Defense Group, a National Guard artillery command with headquarters in Wilmington. Commanding officer is Lt. Col. William A. Hendricks, professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, will be guest minister for revival services at Pilot Baptist Church April 3-9. The services will begin each evening at 7:30 with the Sunday morning worship service at 11:00. Born into a faTm family, reared in a rural church, and having worked his way through Wake Forest College, Mr. Hendricks dedicated his life to the rural min istry. He is a native of North Carolina, a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, has, taught special courses in rural church work at Wake Forest and Duke, and has served as pastor of North Caroli na rural churches. In 1949 “The Progressive Farmer” named Mr. Hendricks “rural minister of the year.’* He has been active in the Grange, in denominational circles, and in educational and political efforts in behalf of rural life. Mr. Hendricks is present pro fessor of Church-Community De velopment and Director of Field Work at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
